Solas was appointed to design and install a bespoke energy-efficient lighting system for the Splash Landings Hotel pool at Alton Towers Resort. The project aimed to improve light levels, reduce energy use, and create distinct lighting atmospheres that enhanced the Caribbean-themed environment of the waterpark.
The Client & Challenge
Alton Towers Resort sought a lighting partner capable of meeting a very specific brief: to deliver an energy-saving system that would raise overall light levels while allowing for varied light temperatures across different zones of the main pool area.
The project presented several challenges, including restricted access to the roof structure and a demanding installation schedule during the winter season. The new lighting design also needed to complement the hotel’s tropical aesthetic and withstand the humid pool environment.
The Solas Solution
Solas developed a tailored lighting design that balanced energy efficiency with creative effect. The solution combined robust, high-performance luminaires with carefully considered colour rendering to evoke the warm tones of a Caribbean island at dawn and dusk.
Due to limited access above the pool, installation was carried out using specialist climbing and rope access techniques, ensuring safety and precision throughout the process. Despite adverse winter weather conditions, the Solas installation team completed the project ahead of schedule.
We wanted to focus on a lighting design that created the illusion of a Caribbean island at dusk or dawn. Solas delivered exactly what we wanted – the new lighting beautifully illuminates the features of the water park with crisp, vibrant light. The installation team were excellent and completed the job early, even in challenging conditions.
