Solas was appointed to design and deliver a lighting refurbishment for Riviera Produce, a leading grower and supplier of fresh vegetables based in Cornwall. The project aimed to modernise the lighting within the company’s vegetable pack-house, improving light quality and efficiency while allowing operations to continue uninterrupted.
The Client & Challenge
Founded in 1870, Riviera Produce is a family-run business that has grown from a 160-acre farm to more than 5,000 acres across Cornwall. Since 1994, the company has supplied supermarkets and wholesalers directly from its purpose-built facility near Hayle, and today it markets around 40% of Cornwall’s cauliflower and spring greens.
The existing fluorescent lighting was outdated and inefficient, resulting in uneven illumination and unnecessary energy use. Riviera sought a modern lighting solution that would enhance working conditions in the pack-house while reducing overall energy consumption.
The Solas Solution
Solas replaced the ageing fluorescent fittings with 25 intelligent, high-level luminaires designed for food production environments.

The system was engineered to deliver even, high-quality illumination throughout the pack-house, improving visibility and safety.
Efficiency
Integrated daylight sensors automatically adjust output to maintain optimal lighting levels while minimising energy waste.

Solas carried out refurbishment of our lighting system in our vegetable pack-house. We found them to be efficient and effective. Their installations team carried out the refurbishment in an organised manner whilst we were able to continue our daily work patterns. The quality of work was excellent and savings of over 20% have been achieved due to lighting now targeted to where it is necessary and the lights only being operational when required. This has given us better lighting conditions when and where we require it.
